EU Q2 2026 Electricity Data: Solar Leads Renewable Generation
Eurostat reports that renewables supplied 54.1% of EU electricity generation in Q2 2026, with solar the largest renewable source.

What the new data shows
Eurostat reported on 18 September 2026 that renewable sources accounted for 54.1% of EU net electricity generation in the second quarter of 2026, compared with 54.3% a year earlier. Solar made up 41.6% of renewable electricity generation, up from 37.0% in Q2 2025.
Why the distinction matters
Our interpretation: solar's larger share strengthens the case for examining when a site generates and consumes electricity. A PV project brief should consider time-of-use demand, export rules and whether storage serves a defined operational need. The figures alone do not establish a system size or return.
- Use interval consumption data where available.
- Check site constraints and network-connection requirements.
- Compare proposals on documented assumptions, not headline generation alone.
Eurostat's measure is a share of net electricity generation, not the Renewable Energy Directive's share of gross electricity consumption. It should not be presented as a site-level forecast.
