A July report broadens the performance discussion

In July 2026, IEA PVPS Task 13 presented research on assessing battery systems operating alongside solar PV. Its summary explains that field performance depends on more than battery chemistry: system topology, inverter behaviour, controls, operating patterns, temperature and firmware also influence outcomes.

The report identifies six assessment indicators: capacity, power tolerance, internal resistance, round-trip efficiency, response time and standby losses. Its residential field observations show variation between nominal specifications and operating performance.

What buyers can take from this

Our interpretation: a procurement comparison should document the conditions behind each performance claim. Comparing two headline values without their test conditions can leave important questions unanswered. Request the applicable datasheets and ask which values describe an individual component and which describe the assembled system.

This is particularly useful when PV modules, an inverter and a battery are supplied as separate items. A clear interface and configuration record helps the buyer understand what has actually been proposed.

Build an evidence-led handover request

  • Identify the exact inverter and battery models in the proposed configuration.
  • Request the relevant compatibility documentation and software versions.
  • Agree which measurements will be recorded during commissioning.
  • Record operating assumptions and the party responsible for reviewing alarms.
  • Keep the supplied manuals and acceptance records with the system documentation.

A research finding is not a new certification

The report supports a more detailed performance discussion; it does not certify Ecoreesun equipment or establish a universal acceptance threshold. Product-specific performance and compatibility should be assessed using the documents for the actual equipment selected.
